Infection with Corona Virus – Typical Symptoms, Course and Treatment of Covid 19 | The first

Which: RKI (Stand: 23.11.2021)

According to the Federal Ministry of Health, hoarseness, leaden fatigue and general malaise are often added. “Typical” flu symptoms such as chills and body aches are also observed. A self-diagnosis is therefore not possible. Anyone who notices flu symptoms should take a corona test as a precaution.

Covid-19: how does the disease progress?

The course of the disease varies greatly. Asymptomatic infections through to severe pneumonia with lung failure and death can occur.

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), around every 200th person in Germany for whom a confirmed corona infection was reported died in connection with the Covid 19 disease. (Status: 07/20/2022)

Fatigue: Confusion and discomfort

Difficulty waking up, concentrating, feeling confused and general uneasiness can also be an indication that you have Covid-19 – especially in children.

However, if ONLY these symptoms are found, they are more likely to be due to other causes. If, on the other hand, they occur in combination with symptoms such as breathing difficulties, coughing or fever, you should seek help.

Disturbance of the sense of smell and taste or rather a sore throat?

Younger people with a “young immune system” who contract Covid-19 are particularly affected by the loss of their sense of smell and taste.

However, not if it is an infection with the omicron variant. This is more commonly associated with a sore throat and more rarely with a loss of taste or smell.

More common than expected: nausea and diarrhea

Digestive problems are also associated with the coronavirus. Especially in children, nausea and diarrhea when they occur together with fever can be an indication of a coronavirus infection.

Headache and dizziness: flu, cold or Covid-19?

Headaches and dizziness can also be indications or side effects of a corona infection. Some of those who have been proven to be infected are said to have complained of headaches, some also of dizziness.

Here, too, it is important to check whether the symptoms are due to the flu or a cold.

Pollen allergy or Corona? runny nose and sore throat

A runny nose is more likely to indicate a cold or pollen allergy than the coronavirus, but it can also occur as a side effect of Covid-19. A sore throat is also more typical of the “normal” flu or a cold, but does not rule out an infection with the corona virus.

Typical for viral diseases: conjunctivitis and red eyes

As with almost all viral diseases, the eyes can also be involved in an infection with the corona virus. Parallel to the more typical symptoms such as fever, body aches or fatigue, those affected develop an inflammation of the eyes or mucous membranes. Similar to the one that can also occur as part of influenza.

“Long Covid” and “Post Covid”

Long-term studies show that anyone who has survived Covid-19 can still suffer from long-term effects. The lungs, muscles, brain, heart or kidneys can be permanently or permanently damaged. Those affected suffer from chronic fatigue or even hair loss. Doctors call this “Long Covid” or “Post Covid”. You can find out what the differences are and where those affected can find help here.
