Infection rate in Denmark increases after schools reopen NOW

The infection rate in Denmark has increased since the relaxation of the corona measures in mid-April, reports the Danish Institute of Infectious Diseases (SSI). However, there would be no acceleration of the spread.

Denmark was one of the first in Europe to lockdown. It subsequently became the first country outside Asia to relax the measures again. Denmark opened day care centers in mid-April. Lower elementary school classes were allowed to return to school under strict conditions.

Since then, the infection rate has increased from 0.6 to 0.9, according to the ISS study. This means that each corona patient infects an average of 0.9 others. Thousands of patients infect 900 people.

But according to ISS, the numbers “are not a sign that acceleration in Denmark is accelerating”.

“No new wave is coming”

Christian Wejse of Aarhus University also says that the easing has not led to a greater spread of the virus. “In any case, there is no indication that we are moving towards a new wave of contamination,” says Wejse.

Governments around the world are monitoring the level of contamination closely. If the figure is below zero, fewer new infections are added every day.

The increased reproduction rate may therefore still cause Danish politicians to be more cautious with new relaxations.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said on Wednesday that the spread of the virus in Denmark is “under control” and that she will present a plan with further easing before 10 May.
