“Inequality spreads the virus”

The minister Ione Belarra account in a video “the only way to end the pandemic ·of coronavirus. In it he talks about the new omicron variant and the vaccines against Covid-19.

“Wasn’t this supposed to end if we are all vaccinated, no? No, not all,” the minister begins the video where she shows the inequality in vaccination.

89.4% of the Spanish population has the complete vaccine schedule, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Health and they are beginning to administer the third doses. However, in the video he explains that in the Republic of Congo less than 0.1% of people are fully vaccinated.

“The absence of immunity in the poorest regions facilitates the appearance of new variants like the omicron that spread rapidly throughout the rest of the world, “he says.

Inequality in vaccines against Covid-19

He also ensures that this inequality that exists in the administration of vaccines between different countries “spreads the virus”: “Inequality spreads the virus,” he says.

“Why aren’t there vaccines for everyone?”he wonders. In this part of the video he begins to talk about the pharmaceutical companies that they have patents on the vaccine against the coronavirus: “The only ones that can produce vaccines are those that have patents on them.”

He explains that as this patent is not released, other countries cannot use it and, therefore, cannot be mass-produced: “The approach of these private pharmaceutical companies is ‘either you pay or there are no vaccines'”.

“The patents of the vaccines could be released and in this way they could be manufactured in mass and distributed by the countries that need it in a fair way,” he said.

To end the video in which Ione Belarra believes that the key to ending the pandemic is the release of patents, she says that until everyone is vaccinated “defeating the virus will be difficult, if not impossible.”
