Boël is part of the fourth generation of the family that made a fortune in Walloon steel, especially in the La Louvière region. After studying civil engineering, he headed the steel factory Usines Gustave Boël, among other things. Later he was a director at Union Financière Boël, among others.

Jacques Boël was very discreet. Not much is known about the man. He was an art lover and loved hunting and wine. Despite that discretion, he came into the limelight for a while.
