JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati said she was happy when many parties paid attention to the management of state finances, including Indonesia’s debt during the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said that this criticism and spotlight is considered good, because it shows the public’s concern and ownership of state finances.
“Now everyone take care of debt, all talk talk it, it’s good that we have ownership on state finances,” said Sri Mulyani at the virtual 25 Years Cash Book Launch, Sunday (10/24/2021).
He added that this was also a progress, considering that previously rarely paid attention to the condition of the state budget (APBN).
The public, he continued, saw an increase in debt as a condition taken for granted or something that can be taken for granted.
“If today many people look at state finances in great detail, I am very happy,” he said.
“In 1997-1998 no one saw the state budget, it was considered taken for grantedIn 2008-2009, no one saw the state budget,” explained Sri Mulnyani.
The former Managing Director of the World Bank stated that now many have realized that state finances are an extremely important instrument that will and must be present when the country faces a crisis.
Furthermore, he said that he learned from the three crises that Indonesia has experienced, namely the 1998 monetary crisis, the 2008 global crisis, and the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic crisis, state finances have become an important instrument in revitalizing the economy.
