Indonesia slams French President Macron over the insulting Islam

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Indonesia (Kemenlu) stated that he condemned the statement made by the President French, Emmanuel Macron, which is considered to be cornering Islam and allowing the republishing of caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad, by the satire magazine Charlie Hebdo.

The Foreign Ministry also summoned the French Ambassador in Jakarta, Olivier Chambard, to convey this criticism.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the French Ambassador in Jakarta today. During the meeting, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the statement made by the French President,” said Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Teuku Faizasyah when contacted. Macron sparked debate after delivering a statement on Friday (23/10), last week. He said “Islam is a religion that is experiencing a worldwide crisis”.

However, Macron stated that he would still maintain the secular principles applied by France.

Macron said his government would continue and respect all differences in peace. He stated that he would not tolerate hate speech and would maintain a culture of debate to defend opinions.

“Our history shows the struggle against tyranny and fanaticism. We will continue it. We will continue, will continue to defend human dignity and universal values,” said Macron.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan responded to Macron’s statement. He said Macron had to have his mental health checked as a result of making the statement.

“What is the problem with the individual that Macron calls Islam and with Muslims? Erdogan said,” Macron needs mental medicine. “

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan accused Macron of “attacking Islam” as a result of the statement.

“This is a time where President Macron can provide a healing touch and deny the extremists room rather than create further polarization and marginalization which inevitably leads to radicalization,” Khan tweeted.

“It is unfortunate that he chose to promote Islamophobia by attacking Islam rather than terrorists who commit violence, be it Muslim, White Supremacist or Nazi ideology,” he added.
