Ministry of Health (Ministry of Health) state Indonesia has entered the third wave of the corona virus (Covid-19). This condition was marked by the increase in daily Covid-19 cases in Indonesia in the past week.
Director of Prevention and Control of Directly Infectious Diseases (P2PML) of the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, also did not deny that the surge in Covid-19 cases in Indonesia was contributed by the nature of the transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 B.1.1.529 or Omicron variant.
“Yes, we have entered the third wave, because cases are starting to rise,” Nadia told CNNIndonesia.com, Tuesday (1/2).
Nadia continued, the spike in Covid-19 cases in the past week occurred because the government had increased the surveillance quota, such as testing and tracing in the regions. He said, as of January 30, the number of people tested was 5.75 per 1,000 inhabitants per week.
According to him, the number of checks is far above the recommended figure from the World Health Organization (WHO), which is 1 per 1,000 population per week.
“Quota increase testing and tracing This is a form of early detection efforts in preventing the expansion of transmission, as well as preventing the emergence of new distribution clusters. This is also an effort to detect early symptoms of Covid-19 suffered by each individual,” he said.
Lockdown
Furthermore, Nadia also appealed to business actors to carry out lockdown or limited and temporary office closures if a new Covid-19 cluster is found. He also reminded employees to keep limiting themselves in interacting with co-workers.
The spokesperson for the Covid-19 vaccination at the same time invites the public to quickly access two-dose vaccinations up to a follow-up or booster dose to provide additional protection, amid the threat of transmission of the Omicron variant.
“Keep wearing masks, maintaining distance, washing hands with soap, avoiding crowds, and reducing mobility in daily life practices to provide optimal protection,” he said.
