A rooster used for cockfighting in India fatally wounded its owner in such a fight. The animal was equipped with a knife and wounded the man on the crotch as he tried to prevent the rooster from escaping.
The man lost a lot of blood and died on the way to a hospital, a local police officer from Telangana state said where the bizarre accident took place. The rooster in question was briefly detained at the police station, but was later taken to a chicken farm.
The victim had organized the cockfight with 15 other men in the village of Lothunur. The local police are looking for the rest of the group. They could be charged with manslaughter, illegal gambling and organizing a cockfight.
Cockfighting is banned in India, but is still common in rural areas in the south and east of the country, especially around the Hindu festival of Sankranti in January.
