TEMPO.CO, – Meeting of foreign ministers of countries G7 London was marked by panic when two delegates from India tested positive for Covid-19. The Indian Foreign Minister and his team must isolate themselves.
India, who is currently experiencing the worst spike in Covid-19 cases in the world, attended the G7 as a guest and will attend meetings on Tuesday evenings and throughout Wednesday. “Was informed last night about a possible positive case of Covid,” said Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Twitter quoted by Reuters on Thursday, May 6, 2021.
As a result of the incident, Jaishankar said, he had to follow the G7 meeting virtually.
A British official confirmed two positive tests and said the entire Indian delegation was in self-isolation. British rule requires a 10 day self-isolation period.
The Indian delegation had yet to arrive at the main summit venue at Lancaster House, so the events scheduled for Wednesday went ahead as planned.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he would speak to Jaishankar via Zoom.
Britain is hosting a three-day meeting of G7 foreign ministers. It is the first G7 event in two years to be seen as an opportunity to restart face-to-face diplomacy and an opportunity for the West to show unity against threats from China and Russia.
The meeting is a precursor to the G7 summit which will take place at a rural resort English in June, with US President Joe Biden and other world leaders to attend.
