India hold on for third Test; Half century for Rohit

Ahmedabad: India are in a strong position in the crucial third Test. By the end of the first day, India were 99 for three. Rohit Sharma (57) and Ajinkya Rahane (1) are at the crease.

Openers Shubhman Gill and Rohit Sharma batted patiently for the first wicket. Gill, who faced 51 balls, was dismissed by Joffre Archer. Cheteshwar Pujara (0), who came in third, was caught by Jack Leach in front of the wicket. Without further ado, Rohit and skipper Virat Kohli led the Indian innings. Kohli (27) was dismissed with just a few overs to go. By the end of the match, India were just 13 runs behind England.

Akshar Patel’s 6-wicket haul kept England at bay. Apart from Akshar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin took 3 wickets and Ishant Sharma, who is playing his 100th Test, took 1 wicket. Only four England batsmen have crossed the two-mark.
