India Arrests 7 People For Murder Of Supporter Of Insulting Prophet Muhammad

At least seven suspects have been arrested by the relevant police murder a chemist, Umesh Kolhe, who briefly posted support for politicians India which insulting the Prophet Muhammad. One of the suspects in the Amravati murder is known to be a friend of the victim.

Kolhe’s murder came a week before another heinous murder of a Hindu man named Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, who also supported politicians who insulted the Prophet.

As reported India TimesMonday (4/7/2022), the local police only admitted on Saturday (2/7) local time that Kolhe’s murder was related to social media posts that supported Nupur Sharmaa politician and spokesman for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), whose remarks were deemed insulting to the Prophet.

Sharma’s controversial remarks were made during a televised debate program in May and sparked anger among Muslims not only in India, but in various countries as well. Even Muslim-majority countries have protested to India over Sharma’s remarks.

The Deputy Commissioner of Amravati Police, Vikram Sali, told local reporters that Kolhe’s killing was linked to a post he shared via a WhatsApp group in support of Sharma, who had been sacked from the BJP which oversees Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi.

Amravati Police in a statement also announced the arrest of the main mastermind behind Kolhe’s murder on Saturday (2/7) evening local time. The main mastermind, identified as Irfan Khan, 32, is the seventh suspect arrested by the police in this case.

According to Amravati Police Chief Dr Aarti Singh, Khan is suspected of being the mastermind behind the conspiracy to kill Kolhe, 54, who owns a drug store in Amravati. Kolhe was stabbed to death on June 21, at around 10:30 p.m., near Ghantaghar, Amravati.
