Index – Tech – According to the makers of Call of Duty, no one is interested in World War II anymore

The latest Call of Duty, Vanguard, became one of the best sellers in 2021 in vain – it was still considered a failure. Video game publisher Activision Blizzard’s financial report shows the franchise has bottomed out and the giant has lost significant revenue because the shooting FPS performed much worse than expected at the checkouts.

Call of Duty: Vanguard sold less than just Black Ops Cold War, but Modern Warfare, and has become one of the most unsuccessful parts of the game series in recent years. Of course, the fact that the single-player campaign was even shorter than usual, and there were hardly any exciting missions, also contributed to all this. And the zombie game mode was uniformly hated by the community. Surprisingly, the latter’s big pull is usually the call of Duty just in line.

Activision has come up with an interesting explanation for investors about the fall, the publisher says Vanguard has failed because people are no longer interested in the long-popular World War II garnish.

The fact that the game took place in World War II simply did not resonate with part of our community. Also, despite all our efforts, we haven’t been able to innovate as much in Call of Duty: Vanguard as you would expect from a premium game. With the new Call of Duty coming in 2022, we will fix the mistakes. The game, which will be part 2 of Modern Warfare in 2019 and its amazing success, will employ more than 3,000 people and is our most ambitious project to date.

– states in the report.

It’s conceivable that World War II really doesn’t interest players so much anymore, but it probably contributed at least so much to the downfall that critics pulled down the vaguely successful Vanguard. After that, there was a simple rumor within the Call of Duty community that this act wasn’t so worth getting.

There are apparently high expectations for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, developed by Infinity Ward, which will be a sequel to Modern Warfare 2019, but the exact details are not yet known. On April 28, Activision Blizzard officially announced the game and unveiled its official logo.
