Increased risk of avian flu: compulsory shelter for poultry farmers from 1 November

Last week, the Netherlands already introduced a housing requirement. Then the FASFC asked to be vigilant.

Avian flu is a highly contagious viral disease to which all bird species are likely to be susceptible. There is no scientific indication that the virus is also harmful to humans. In Belgium, the virus was last detected in June and July 2017.

Contamination can take place through direct contact with sick animals or through exposure to contaminated material, such as manure or dirty crates. Indirect contamination is also possible via the air, but over a relatively short distance.
