In recent weeks, New York City has been receiving a high number of immigrants seeking asylum.
The fact has drawn the attention of Mayor Eric Adams himself, who spoke about it.
“New York has been and always will be a city of immigrants that welcomes newcomers with open arms,” the mayor wrote at the time in a message on social networks.
“Our city has seen a sharp increase in asylum seekers, and I call on the federal government to send more resources immediately,” the message continued.
