Incidence increases by another 10 points

The corona numbers in Cologne are still high. Most recently, the seven-day incidence skyrocketed. In the city there is now an exit restriction at night.

The corona pandemic still determines everyday life in the cathedral city. What are the rules? How many infected are there? What do Cologne residents currently need to know about the Covid 19 situation?

Monday April 19: Incidence jumps to just over 188

The Robert Koch Institute showed a seven-day incidence of 188.1 in Cologne on Monday morning. On Sunday morning, the incidence was 10 points less – and was 178. 461 new infections were reported within 24 hours.

In total, the institute has counted 43,936 cases in the city since the pandemic began. The number of deaths related to Corona rose by two more deaths to 614.

Sunday April 18: Numbers keep climbing

There is no relaxation in sight in Cologne on Sunday morning either: The Robert Koch Institute reported 358 new infections with the coronavirus, the total number of cases now amounts to 43,475. The incidence value rises again to 178.3. Two new infection-related deaths have also been reported, bringing the total to 612.

Saturday April 17th: incidence above 170

On Saturday, the Robert Koch Institute reported 325 new corona infections in Cologne – the current incidence is now 172.4. The value was last so high in mid-November of last year. The previous record was on November 2nd at 216.8. The total number of people infected with Corona in Cologne now amounts to 43,117. According to the RKI, there were no new deaths on Friday, they remain unchanged at 610.

Friday, April 16: Reker announces curfew

Henriette Reker announced a curfew for Cologne at a press conference. “Every day without further measures brings new deaths,” said the mayor. The city is forced to react to the increasing number of infections with a curfew.

According to the crisis team, this applies Curfew from tonight. The general decree of the City of Cologne comes into force from midnight. The curfew then applies until 5 a.m. and then always between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

When asked how long the curfew should apply, Reker gave no specific answer. “I cannot give a forecast as to when we will take the measure back,” said Reker. “I am confident that we can soon drop the measure again.”

Incidence in Cologne remains high

On Friday morning, the Robert Koch Institute reported an incidence value for Cologne of 162.7. It is only slightly lower than the day before (163.8). 248 new corona cases were registered, bringing the total number of infections reported since the start of the pandemic to 42,792. The number of deaths rose to 610 as four more people died from or with Covid-19.

Thursday, April 15th: Will there be a curfew in Cologne soon?

The city should impose at least one, as it is called in the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger”. According to this, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health confirmed to the newspaper that they “basically agreed to the possibility of a curfew in Cologne”. The city still has to submit a general decree. “This has not yet happened,” said the spokeswoman.

At the beginning of the week, the head of the Cologne crisis team was in favor of one Curfew announced as a further measure to contain the coronavirus. To this end, she had called for a regulation from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia that would make this possible – because the city of Cologne could not enforce it alone. The crisis team will deal with it on Friday.

Corona incidence continues to climb

On Thursday morning, the Robert Koch Institute reported a further increase in the incidence value of 163.8. With 341 new corona cases, the total number of infections registered since the beginning of the pandemic rose to 42,544. Four other people died of or with the virus, so the number of corona deaths in Cologne increases to 606.

University clinic at the limit because of more and more Covid-19 patients

Clinic director Michael Hallek already had warned days ago on television that his intensive care unit at Cologne University Hospital was operating at its limit. Interventions that can be postponed will be postponed. The head of Clinic I for Internal Medicine has now warned again of an overload: Man is not far from a “hard triage” in the university hospital, in which only selected patients can be treated.
