The plane landed in Chuhuiv, Kharkiv region, in preparation for landing at that city ‘s airport. Two survivors who were seriously injured were found and rescued in its wreck.

It is estimated that there were a total of 28 people on board – seven crew members and 21 students of the Kharkiv National Air Force University.

Photos posted on social media showed an airplane wreck burning in the dark.

Kharkiv Oblast Governor Alexei Kucera confirmed that there were survivors and deaths in the accident and announced that he was going to the scene. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky promised to visit it on Saturday.

The news of the accident during the training flight was also confirmed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The cause has not yet been determined.

The site of the disaster is about 40 kilometers from the Russian border in eastern Ukraine, but outside the war zone there.
