On September 4, a local resident reported to the police about the “strange man” who declared a desire to talk to one of her daughters. The arriving police officers did not find the man.
The situation developed around 4.30 on Sunday morning. One of the police officers heard shots and reinforcements were sent to the area. A truck was burning near one of the houses, not far from which there was a suspect in the shooting. He immediately ran into the house, from where “a woman’s screaming and a baby crying” were heard, as well as new shots, said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.
According to him, a shootout took place between the police and the man, during which “dozens, if not hundreds” of shots were fired. Then the suspect went out and surrendered to the police, he was injured.
The house was checked by robots for explosives and all kinds of traps. There were found three people shot dead, including a woman with a baby in her arms. The child was also dead.
Another dead woman was found by the police in a house next door.
The police said that the suspect was so aggressive that in the hospital where he was taken, he tried to take the gun from the police from the gurney. There was a fight, as a result of which the attacker was tied up.
The motives for the shooting have not yet been announced, the Associated Press notes.
The shooter admitted that he was taking the drug methamphetamine. They are going to transfer him to jail.
