American spent 43 years in prison for a crime he did not commit

The man went to prison when he was 18 years old – now he is 62 years old. He was falsely accused of a triple murder.

In the United States, Kevin Strickland was released after 43 years in prison for a triple murder, which he did not commit. About it informs CNN Wednesday, November 24.

The man went to prison when he was 18 years old – now he is 62 years old. His case was the longest wrongful detention in Missouri history and one of the longest in the United States.

Strickland said he learned of his release from the news. After leaving prison, he thanked his lawyers and everyone who believed in his innocence.

“I didn’t think that day would come,” Strickland said.

Note that the crime took place on April 25, 1978 in Kansas City. The shooting attack killed three people, and a girl named Cynthia Douglas survived the injury. The girl immediately recognized the two attackers, who admitted their guilt – they served about ten years.

The day after the shooting, a witness pointed to Strickland, allegedly having the same hairstyle as one of the intruders. At the same time, Douglas claimed that she did not immediately recognize the third person involved, as she used brandy and marijuana.

The man was sentenced to 50 years in prison without the right to early release.

However, Cynthia later admitted that she was mistaken and misidentified the suspect. She tried to release him from prison until her death in 2015.

Missouri does not provide compensation for time spent in prison. The GoFundMe platform launched a fundraiser to help Strickland, more than $ 230 thousand has already been raised.

Recall that previously a man mistakenly spent 33 years in an American prison on charges of murdering a man and raping his wife in 1982. A new investigation has shown that Harvard’s analyzes do not match those left on the victim.

It was also reported that cops in the United States mistakenly shot an innocent man in the shopping center. Law enforcement officers mistook the young man for the culprit in the shooting at a shopping center in Hoover, Alabama.
