In the run in Kuldiga, he raises funds for playing fairy tales to children in a hospital / Article / LSM.lv

This is a noble goal – it was acknowledged by many of the participants of the “Fairytale Race”. During the third year of the Kuldīga half marathon, symbolic or charity races also take place. This time, the donated funds will go to the Children’s Department of Kuldīga Hospital, an audio system will be installed there and the children will be able to listen to the tales of Imants Ziedonis in the evening.

When the participants of the Kuldīga half marathon who have proved their strength in the distance of 5 and 10 kilometers have returned from the track, the greatest activity begins at the place where they are invited to register for the charity race. As the Kuldīga Half Marathon took place for the 15th time this year, there is also a charity run in the mood for a birthday, where each participant comes with their own gift – a donation that will allow the Kuldīga Hospital ward to be equipped with an audio system. Antra Grīnberga, one of the organizers of the half marathon, did not hide that the idea for the purpose of this race was gained from personal experience.

“It was a childhood memory that I was in the hospital alone, without my mother, then those evenings were very sad.

Sometimes it happens that there is a child who does not have parents with him who reads a fairy tale, so it seemed that it would be very nice if all the children could listen to fairy tales every night, “says Greenberg.

About 270 people of different ages have responded to the festive race after fairy tales. Some people covered the distance of two kilometers along the ancient streets of Kuldiga by running, someone walking, someone walking, driving a wheelchair or a bicycle. From time to time, the participants were encouraged by both passers-by and musicians at the musical points. Due to the weather, the Kuldiga half marathon has long been named the “Hottest half marathon”, this year was no exception, so the locals take care of cooling the runners.

The Children’s Department of Kuldīga Hospital has nine wards, where children are treated from the first days of life until the age of 18. About 50 children with various diseases stay in the department per month.

The idea of playing fairy tales in the hospital was welcomed with joy and responsiveness, and a large team of hospital staff also took part in the race.

“All the tales about Imants Ziedonis are benign with a deep subtext. It seems to me that at every level, every age in Imants Ziedonis’s fairy tales can find what is important to him, including the staff,” said Ramona Irbe, Head of the Children’s Department at Kuldīga Hospital.

“Nowadays, many children do not read or listen to fairy tales, do not even really understand what it is, it is not a ritual before going to bed with their parents. In any case, returning to something so old, to Latvian traditions, is very valuable,” participant of the race, goldsmith Madara Brūkle.

926 euros were donated in the festive race after the fairy tales.
