“In the first half we are much better”

Elfsborg had the lead twice at home against AIK. In the second half, the away team turned the match around through two goals by Nicolas Stefanelli and one by Filip Rogic, and was finally able to win 4-2.

Elfsborg’s Tim Rönning does not think that the result reflected the match picture.

– I actually think we make a pretty good match. In the first half we are much better than them, I think. Then there are a few small mistakes that punish us today and they get in four simple goals, unfortunately, says Rönning to Fotbollskanalen.

AIK’s 3-2 goal was prompted by a shot from outside from Zachary Elbouzedi. Rönning steered the return right in front of Nicolas Stefanelli who could extend the lead.

– You can talk so much about what is good and bad. A good shot bowls quite a lot. I’m on my way to the left, have to change back and get my hands up. As a goalkeeper, you will never let go of perfect returns all the time, but now it was straight out and unfortunately they scored on it, says Rönning.

Is it difficult to play matches like this as a goalkeeper, given the cold?
– You have to find ways to stay warm. It is clear that it is a little different compared to when you play in June and it is nice outside. It was good pressure on the doctor today (read Monday) that kept us warm.

Before the match, both Leo Väisänen and Simon Strand were suspended, and after half an hour played, Johan Larsson was forced to leave with a shoulder injury. Elfsborg thus had to play the rest of the match with a far from regular back line – and lost 1-1 to 2-4.

However, Rönning does not want to blame the loss on Larsson’s injury.

– That is what I think has been our strength in this team, that those who jump in know what to do. Johan is good at what he does, but there are no differences in that way, says the 22-year-old.

You still conceded three goals after that?
– Individual mistakes. They punish us severely.

Ahead of the final round of the Allsvenskan 2021, Elfsborg is now in fourth place in the table. To reach a top three position (and thus a qualifying ticket to the Europa Conference League), you must win your match away against Örebro SK, while third Djurgården loses points away against BK Häcken.

The last round will be played on December 4.
