In the Czech Republic, coronavirus is spreading the fastest in the EU

The reproduction number, showing the rate of spread of covid-19, is currently the highest in the Czech Republic at least since the beginning of last October. To date, it has risen from Thursday’s 1.65 to 1.79. It follows from the press news Ministry of Health and Data at the web of the Ministry. The so-called The reproduction number indicates how many other people become infected with one who has tested positive.

According to statistics from the National Agency for Communication and Information Technologies (NAKIT), the Czech Republic is the worst EU country in this respect. After us, the highest reproduction number is in Poland and Hungary (both 1.6). Malta and Finland are best, where the reproduction number is below one. The Czech Republic is the seventh worst in the world, the highest reproduction number in the world is in Paraguay (2.6).

Today’s value of the number exceeded all previous ones at least from October 1, 2020. Values for days before this date are not listed on the Ministry’s website. Continuously since the end of August this year, the reproduction number has remained above the critical value of one, which means accelerating the spread of the covid-19 epidemic.

The Interdisciplinary Group on Epidemics (MeSES) has issued a set of recommendations on how to curb the epidemic. In addition to vaccination, as a main point, he advises, for example, “to reintroduce comprehensive testing in schools and companies in epidemics, especially for people who are either unvaccinated or have not tested positive in the last 180 days. In the first phase, we recommend introducing this intervention in schools in districts with an incidence of more than 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants per week, or with a percentage positive test of more than 5%. In the case of children, regular testing is a primary intervention that can prevent the massive spread of the disease in schools. In the next phase, we recommend introducing comprehensive testing in companies, in districts with a weekly incidence of more than 200 per 100 thousand inhabitants, or with a percentage positivity of tests higher than 10%. Testing should take place every 7 days, “said the experts.

According to them, comprehensive testing is a measure that is suitable for implementation locally, at the district level. “However, the local principle has not yet been applied in the choice of measures and only a very small number of measures have been implemented locally. We emphasize that early intervention at the local level can prevent further deterioration of the situation (both in the affected and adjacent districts) and is therefore a measure that is advantageous in its scope not only in terms of preventing the spread of the disease, but also in economic terms, “she added. MeSES.
