In the best of scenarios, the world will only return to normal in two or three years, says Guterres | Covid-19

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, believes that, in the most optimistic scenario, in which developed countries are able to organize themselves and prevent second waves of the pandemic, the world will only return to normal in two or three years.

At worst, the lack of a coordinated response would result in “a disaster for the southern hemisphere and generate a second wave in the north with dire economic consequences” and a “global depression of five to seven years”.

In an interview published in this Saturday’s edition of the newspaper The country, António Guterres says he is convinced that, at some point, the origin of the covid-19 pandemic will have to be investigated, the way spread so quickly and how the World Health Organization (WHO), countries and other entities responded.

Guterres believes that, although WHO may have made some mistakes at the beginning of the pandemic, it did not try to help China “hide reality”.

“What I can say is that I know the people of WHO and they are not being controlled by any country. They have always acted in good faith to obtain the best possible cooperation from the member states ”, says the UN secretary general.

António Guterres admits that there may have been some mistakes, but he says he does not believe that WHO has tried to help China hide the reality.
