In Spain, the number of cases of coronavirus exceeds one million; the government is considering new restrictions

At the same time, the Spanish government is considering new restrictions on public life in an attempt to reduce the spread of the virus.

In the last 24 hours, 16,973 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Spain, bringing the total number of cases since 31 January, when the first case was confirmed in the Canary Islands, to 1,005,295.

156 Covid-19-related deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, for a total of 34,366.

With a population of 47 million, Spain is the sixth country in the world to have more than a million infections. The others are the United States, India, Brazil, Russia and Argentina.

In Spain, the number of deaths in the second wave of Covid-19 is lower than at the height of the health crisis in March and April, when the number of deaths reached 800 per day. The average age of those infected is also lower today.

The government said on Tuesday that it was considering new restrictions, possibly including night curfew, as has already been done in France and Belgium.
