In Rwanda, BAG Innovation prepares students for the world of work

The gap between the academic world and the world of employment is immense. To harden young people to successfully face this rite of passage, a Rwandan start-up has developed a digital platform linking students to companies.

BAG Innovation is a digital platform developed by a young Rwandan company of the same name. It allows students to carry out remote internships in large companies in the region to gain experience in order to be ready for the world of employment. The start-up was founded in 2017 by Gabriel Ekman and Yussouf Ntwali.

“BAG seeks to revolutionize the traditional approach to how individuals gain experience in school and train the next generation of problem solvers. That’s why our name is BAG – Building A Generation”, indicates the start-up.

As on a social network, users create an account by filling in a certain amount of personal information. After this stage, it will be necessary to provide information on his educational background and then on his interests. This process helps the start-up to offer internships adapted to each profile.

Thanks to augmented reality and machine learning, BAG puts students to the test by confronting them with a real situation in progress in one of the private partner companies, in the form of a case study. To succeed in such a bet, it uses gamification, a method which consists in applying the codes and mechanisms attached to the world of video games to sectors for which they were not intended.

The start-up claims to have reached more than 8,000 students in Rwanda and 600 obtained work opportunities. It is in partnership with fifteen universities including the University of Rwanda, the largest in the country, and more than 115 small and medium-sized enterprises.
