6:39 am: Jean Castex receives this morning the mayors of Paris, Lyon, Grenoble and Lille
The mayors and presidents of metropolitan areas of Paris, Lyon, Grenoble and Lille have an appointment this Thursday morning with Prime Minister Jean Castex.
It is the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, who will be the first received (at 8:15) in Matignon. The mayor of Lyon Grégory Doucet and the president of the metropolis Bruno Bernard are expected at rue de Varenne around 9:30 am, before Martine Aubry and Damien Castelain (town hall and metropolis of Lille) at 10:30 am. The mayor of Grenoble Eric Piolle and the president of the metropolis Christophe Ferrari must, them, exchange by phone at 11:45 with Mr. Castex. The mayors will be accompanied for these meetings by the directors general of the regional health agencies and the prefects of the departments.
The objective is to open “consultation with elected officials, to assess the binding measures” which have already been put in place in these cities “and to discuss possible adaptations, reinforcement measures if the indicators were to evolve unfavorably” , we said in the entourage of the Prime Minister.

The new intervention of the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, this evening at 6 p.m., is eagerly awaited. The concern is particularly strong in Paris, Lyon, Grenoble and Lille – cities whose mayors will be received this morning in Matignon. Emmanuel Macron has not closed any doors: “The government must be able to take additional measures”.

Update on the situation
– We deplore 12,845 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in France and 63 deaths. All indicators are red, especially in Paris, where 32% of resuscitation beds are occupied by Covid-19 patients.
– The Marseille administrative court rejected the appeal against the closure of bars and restaurants in Marseille and Aix.
– The partial unemployment scheme at 100% has been extended until the end of the year for all protected sectors, such as culture, events and sport, still affected by restrictive measures, and not only for the hotel and catering sector only.
– Belgium, one of the European countries most bereaved by the pandemic, crossed the 10,000 dead mark on Wednesday. Globally, according to official figures, the death toll is 1,012,093.
