The author of the project, which was approved in 2017, is the artist Christo. However, he will not be able to see his creation.

One of the most famous symbols of the French capital of Paris – the Arc de Triomphe – was covered with fabric designed by the American artist Christo. About this on Tuesday, September 14, reported DW edition.

Thus, the monument wrapped in silver-blue fabric, which has become the artist’s new art installation, will be open to visitors from September 18 to October 3.

According to the publication, Christo dreamed of wrapping the arch back in the 60s of the last century, but the project was approved only in 2017. The artist did not live to see this day (he died last spring), but the project was implemented according to his drawings and drawings. The work was supervised by Christo’s nephew.

According to local mass media, in order to “dress” the famous monument, several teams of climbers climbed onto it. They unfolded a total of 25 thousand square meters of canvas. Some of the rolls weighed over a ton.

The project cost is 14 million euros. The funds were provided by the administrators managing the Christo estate. Collected them, selling a number of his works.

As you know, the artist previously wrapped the Reichstag in Berlin in fabric, made a curtain in Colorado, and covered floating piers on Lake Iseo in Italy. At the same time, all projects were free for visitors and were financed exclusively through the sale of Christo’s works.

As reported, Swedish citizen Tore Hallström promised to give Ukraine a picture XVIII century “Saint Barbara”, because it is in the Cathedral of St. Vladimir in Kiev that the relics of the holy Great Martyr Barbara are kept.
