KlikBabel.com – Fasting in the month of Ramadan is carried out for approximately 30 days. This of course makes your body lack a balanced intake of nutrients including vitamins, minerals and fiber.

For your body to stay fit during Ramadan, you can take vitamin supplements if you feel that your vitamin intake is insufficient from foods such as vegetables and fruits.

“It is still recommended that the source is from the food we consume, so it is advisable to continue to consume balanced nutrition, sufficient fruit and vegetables during fast food and dawn. But if it is difficult one of them can be assisted by supplements. So supplements are fine but not necessarily,” said Certified Nutrition. and Wellness Consultant from the University of Indonesia Mochamad Aldis Ruslialdi quoted from AMONG, Friday (16/4/2021).

A similar sentiment was expressed by the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Traditional Medicine and Herbal Medicine Development Doctors Association (PDPOTJI), dr. Ingrid Tania.

He said, in general, vitamin and mineral supplements during Ramadan and the COVID-19 pandemic are needed to improve fitness and immunity.

The recommended supplements include vitamin B complex, vitamin C, vitamin D3, zinc minerals and immunomodulatory herbs which generally have minimal side effects because they come from natural ingredients such as Echinacea pupurea extract, Cordyceps Militaris mushroom and zinc picolinate.

Then during Ramadan when should you drink it? Both according to Tania and Aldis, suggesting that after eating iftar and dawn.

“Because there are several micronutrients that will be more optimally absorbed with the assistance of other nutrients. For example, vitamins A, D, E, K are optimally absorbed when we consume enough healthy fats or iron, which is more optimally absorbed when we consume vitamin C,” said Aldis. who is currently the Head of Product Development & External Affairs of MUFIT Indonesia.

To make it easier, Tania gave an example, you can take vitamin D3 supplements after eating iftar, immunomodulatory herbal supplements before eating Suhoor, then supplements of vitamin B complex, vitamin C, zinc after eating sahur.

Especially for immunomodulators, you can take them every day between 8 weeks-16 weeks with a two-week break to avoid possible side effects even though there is no strong evidence about this.
