In New York, rumor of excess vaccines causes long line

UNITED STATES – One of three vaccination centers open 24 hours a day, seven days a week New York was stormed on the evening of Thursday, January 14, after a message widely relayed on social networks and in particular by Whatsapp, as you can see in the video above.

A message from an unknown source ensured that the vaccination center at Brooklyn Army Terminal was seeking to distribute several hundred vaccine doses against the coronavirus whose expiration date expired at 7 p.m. local time. All people over the age of 18 who did not have an appointment were invited to attend.

At New York, vaccine strategy allows people over 65 as well as certain trades such as police officers, teachers or caregivers, to make an appointment to benefit from one of the vaccines authorized on the market.

Cacophony

This message caused a massive influx of people in front of the center. The queue stretched for several hundred meters, causing traffic jams. New York City Mayor Bill Neidhardt spokesperson took to Twitter to ask people to return home and said the rumor of a walk-in vaccination was totally false.

The police and city officials intervened to disperse the people waiting outside the Brooklyn Army Terminal.

On social networks, however, several people claim to have heard officials from the New York health services say that walk-in vaccinations had indeed been organized in this center. Some have even been placed, they say, in a special queue for people without an appointment.

A city health worker seen in the video even claims that this event was “unique” and that the center was “no longer able to offer walk-in visits”.

At the same time, other patients with an appointment and eligible for vaccination claim to have had their summons canceled and postponed. A real cacophony.
