In New York, hundreds of people without masks rally against bar closure

Hundreds of people demonstrated in front of a bar in Staten Island, New York, this Thursday, December 3, demanding the opening of the establishment. Displaying American flags, these customers protested against the arrest, the day before, of the director of Mac’s Public House. He had refused to close his establishment, despite the restrictions linked to the Covid-19 pandemic and in particular the 10 p.m. curfew imposed on New York bars and restaurants since November 13. Glued to each other, the demonstrators, many of whom were not masked, were far from respecting social distancing, as you can see from the pictures below:

New York Sheriff’s officers guarded the front door of Mac’s Public House owned by Keith McAlarney, to prevent protesters from entering.

Earlier in the day, they had also guarded the door to the facility, making sure people did not try to eat and drink inside.

No arrests were orchestrated during this demonstration.

With 2,731 new deaths recorded on Wednesday, the United States has reached a record number of deaths from Covid-19 since April. The pandemic has already claimed the lives of at least 273,000 Americans.
