Mexican top club Cruz Azul has been diagnosed with 22 infections with the new corona virus, the Mexican League MX reported on Saturday.
This concerns eight cases for the men and fourteen for the women’s team. The infected persons do not currently show any symptoms of the disease. The men’s team, which is preparing for the start of the season, is quarantining the infected players in the capital Mexico City. The infected players remain at home for observation. Cruz Azul had already reported two infections last week, including that of Uruguayan international Jonathan Rodriguez.
Due to the corona pandemic, the season in Mexico was definitively discontinued at the end of May, without appointing a champion. At the beginning of July it will be possible to play football again after a delay of four months. Then the Cup of Mexico is played, a friendly tournament whose proceeds go to charity. The Mexican league will then resume on July 24. The Cup Final between Monterrey and Tijuana will be played on September 16 (back) and September 23 (back).
