We no longer count the hits signed George Michael. Before launching solo and breaking records, the artist touched the first places in the rankings thanks to Last Christmas or to Wake Me Up Before You Go Go with Wham! . Alone, Michael gave us some timeless hits – dont Freedom! ’90. To find on the album Listen Without Prejudice, Vol. 1, the title is not to be confused with Freedom by Wham !, precisely.
On the clip side, Freedom! ’90 is directed by David Fincher. Against all expectations, George Michael does not appear there – the British artist preferred to leave her place to a group of models (composed of Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Tatjana Patitz, Christy Turlington and Cindy Crawford). In 1991, Gianni Versace will open his show with these same models, on this piece. Note that in the video, several objects referring to the clip of Faith are destroyed : the leather jacket, the Wurlitzer jukebox and the guitar are symbolically destroyed. The reason ? George Michael wanted to distance himself from the fame engendered by Faith.
Freedom! ’90 was to be a real success, placing itself at the top of the charts in North America.
