A spit that can now cost 38 euros. In Lunel in the Hérault, the town hall decided last month to ban spitting in public spaces under penalty of a fine. For Pierre Soujol, the mayor of Lunel, it is a decree of simple common sense, especially in this period of health crisis: “Today more than ever we must remind people not to spit on the ground. we see them remove their mask to spit, we say to ourselves that they have not understood anything, “he pleads on RMC.
“By spitting, multitudes of particles go into the air. This is for the health crisis but already in normal times it is not normal to spit in public space, we walk in, we enter shops, we walk on carpets, it’s disgusting. We take a handkerchief in the pocket and it avoids the postilions outside “, adds the elected official.
And “this decree could last even after the crisis”, warns the mayor. This measure is already in force in several cities such as Marcq-en-Baroeul (North), Béziers (Hérault) or Coulaines (Sarthe) and which is above all a way of reminding people that this gesture has already been prohibited by law since 1942.
