In Kharkiv, a woman’s breasts were amputated without warning, while they only had to take a tissue sample for histology and testing for cancer. About it informs Ukraine 24 on Friday 23 July.
The victim Elena Karmanova agreed to the operation back in 2018. Then the doctors suspected she had a malignant tumor. To determine the diagnosis, the doctors suggested that the woman undergo a simple operation, promising that only a small piece of breast tissue would be removed.
“I was already so scared that I agreed. When I regained consciousness after the anesthesia, the first question that I asked the nurses was if my breasts were in place. Hearing the answer, I started hysterical and shock, because I did not consent to this. “, – said Karmanova.
According to the victim, she did not give written consent to the operation. The woman wanted to check the doctors’ words about cancer in another clinic, but she was never given the removed gland and material for histology.
A few months after the amputation, the woman was promised in writing to carry out breast reconstruction for budget money. The operation was supposed to be done before February 2019, but it has not yet been carried out.
“The diagnosis has been clearly made, she does not believe in this matter. What can we talk about here,” says Nikolai Krasnoselsky, a surgeon-oncologist, director of the Institute.
According to Krasnoselsky, during the operation to remove the mammary gland, the only mistake was allegedly that the surgeon did not make an official record about it. He also denies that the woman was promised reconstruction.
In turn, the victim turned to the police, a criminal case was initiated on improper performance of duties by surgeons. She demands compensation for moral damage – 5 million hryvnia. The woman plans to spend money on breast reconstruction surgery.
