In June, 15.5% of employees worked remotely / Article / LSM.lv

With the end of the state of emergency in the country, the proportion of teleworkers has decreased. In June 2020, 15.5% (117,100) of employees aged 15–74 worked remotely, which is 2.7 percentage points (18,800) less than in May, according to the results of the Central Statistical Bureau Labor Force Survey.

70% of women and 30% of men worked remotely.

In June, one fifth (20.9%) of employees had the opportunity to work remotely, but 79.1% did not have such an opportunity. Only 5.4% of employees who had the opportunity to work remotely did not use it.

The highest number of teleworkers was in the age group 15–34 years (31.2%), slightly less (27%) – in the age group 45–54 years. The highest number of remotely employed men (35.7%) was in the age group 35-44 years, but women (31.7%) were in the age group 15-34 years.

The highest share of teleworkers (18.3%) in the total number of employees in the corresponding age group in June 2020 was observed in the age group 45–54 years, but the lowest (11.4%) in the age group 55–74 years.

Almost half (47.5%) of all teleworkers in June were employed in the trade and services sector. Slightly fewer (46.2%) employees worked in the other services sector. Only 4.7% of all teleworkers were employed in the manufacturing sector.

The highest share (25.5%) of teleworkers in the sector was still observed in the other services sector. In the trade and services sector, 16.6% of employees worked remotely, while in the manufacturing sector – only 3.2%.

Most often (42.7%) senior specialists worked remotely, slightly more than a third (34.2%) of managers and slightly less than a third (32.4%) of specialists.

In June, 63.7% of teleworkers worked full-time, 18.3% regularly 3-5 days a week, and 7.8% regularly 1-2 days a week. 5.2% of employees worked remotely a few days a month, but 5% – regularly part-time or a few hours.

CONTEXT:

In Latvia on June 10 ended A state of emergency was declared on 12 March to contain the new coronavirus, and during the emergency, workers were given maximum encouragement to work remotely. Many companies maintained all or part of these options even after the end of the emergency.

The virus is still circulating and there is no medicine or vaccine for it. Certain restrictions still apply to reduce the spread of Covid-19. No augusta 3,000 people can gather outside. Restrictions indoors depend on the size of the room. The two-meter distance is still valid.
