From January 25 to 27, 2022 officials and volunteers of the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority to Conduct Annual Homeless Count.
It will be the first homeless count to be carried out in the city since the coronavirus pandemic began in 2020.
This count will allow us to know the dimension of the problem of homeless people and how much it has increased as a result of the economic problems derived from the COVID-19 disease.
The count will be carried out by providers of the program Continuum of Care, to obtain federal resources through the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The most recent figures, from 2020, indicated that The homeless population in Los Angeles County increased 12.7% from 2019, while the city increased 14.2%.
In the first month of 2019, there were 58,936 homeless people in Los Angeles County, and for January 2020 there were 66,433.
In the city of Los Angeles, in January 2020, 41,290 homeless people were detected, a figure that exceeded that of January 2019, when there were 36,165 people.
Due to the pandemic, the county received an exemption to do the count in 2021 by the United States Department of Housing and Development.
The determination not to count was made after the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority determined that it was unsafe to summon 8,000 volunteers to carry out the count due to orders to stay home and respect curfews due to coronavirus.
