“We have agreed on a text from the probing talks,” Scholz said, adding that it was “a very good result, which makes it clear that a government can be formed in Germany to ensure that we make progress.”
The three parties have agreed to start formal talks on forming a government.
“We are confident that we can reach an ambitious and viable coalition agreement,” he said in a joint statement released on Friday after the final round of probing talks.
“The probing talks were characterized by trust, respect and mutual understanding,” the document said.
The Greens will hold a party conference this weekend.
FDP negotiators will meet with the party leadership before continuing the negotiation process.
If the parties identify common ground and differences in the sounding negotiations without making any commitment, negotiations on the content of the policies to be pursued will signal the start of a process with a clear intention to build a viable government.
If these negotiations are successful, the first three-party coalition since the 1950s will be formed at the federal level.
