In France, voting is taking place for the second round of the municipalities

From this morning in France you are voting for the second round of the municipal elections, set more than three months after the first round of 15 March. The second shift was initially expected to take place on Sunday 22 March, but the onset of the coronavirus epidemic had forced the government to postpone them. It is voting in 4,820 different municipalities, including Paris, Le Havre, Lille and Perpignan.

In Paris, the victory of the outgoing mayor Anne Hidalgo, elected with the Socialist Party in 2014 and supported by a list, “Paris en commun”, which also includes the Communist Party, seems obvious. In the first round, Hidalgo had obtained 29.33 percent of the vote, taking eight points ahead of Rachida Dati, former justice minister in the government of Nicolas Sarkozy and candidate with Les Républicains, and more than twelve over Agnès Buzyn, ex-minister della Sanità, candidate for Emmanuel Macron’s party. In Le Havre, however, Edouard Philippe had obtained 43.6 percent of the vote, going on the ballot with the communist Jean-Paul Lecoq. In Lille, however, the outgoing mayor, the socialist Martine Aubry, should be reconfirmed.
