In France 25 thousand new Covid cases, Belgium closes bars and restaurants

In the last 24 hours in France, 25,086 people tested positive for coronavirus and 122 people died, the task force following the epidemic said. Over the past seven days, 6906 people have been hospitalized, 1204 of them in intensive care.

Alarm also in Belgium, where new restrictions have been announced: they close cafes and restaurants for four months, extending the measure already in force in Brussels to the whole country. Among other measures valid throughout the country, the sale of alcohol was banned after 8pm and a curfew was imposed from midnight to five in the morning starting on Monday. Telework becomes “the rule” for all jobs that allow it starting from Monday. The ‘bubble’ of social relations is reduced to a single close contact with up to four people, who must be the same for two weeks.

The new measures come after Belgium, a country of 11 million inhabitants, recorded an average of 5,976.3 new infections per day between 6 and 12 October. On Monday, an absolute record of 8500 infections was reached and health authorities fear that they will reach 10 thousand by Tuesday.
