The vaccine in China
Almost a million people in China have been given an emergency vaccine for Covid-19, still in the experimental phase. This was announced by the pharmaceutical company, without, however, providing clinical data to prove their effectiveness. Since this summer, China has allowed the injection of vaccines not yet approved, for needs deemed urgent – such as employees and students who go abroad, or even particularly exposed workers, such as carers. In this context, “our vaccines have been injected into nearly a million people and we have not received any feedback on serious adverse reactions,” said Liu Jingzhen, president of Sinopharm, on the group’s website. According to the company: «Nnone of the vaccinated people contracted Covid-19, despite having traveled “to more than 150 countries”.
Four experimental vaccines
China, where the novel coronavirus was first identified in late 2019, currently has four vaccines in human trial phase 3, the latest one before possible approval. Since there are very few patients in the Asian country, where Covid-19 has been largely contained since the spring, these tests are carried out abroad. Sinopharm’s Phase 3 clinical trials, which includes two vaccines that have reached this stage, are therefore taking place in a dozen countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Argentina, Peru, Egypt and Jordan. The state-owned company president Liu Jingzhen, he assured that his group is “at the forefront of the world” in developing anti-Covid vaccines. However, it did not present any scientific data. Chinese President Xi Jinping has promised that any vaccine produced by a company in his country will become “a global public good”, which will be made available to developing countries.

The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in India has exceeded 9 million, making it the second most affected country globally after the United States, with an increase in infections in the capital Ned Delhi, despite the downward trend recorded in the rest of the country. Brazil
A report produced by a network of researchers and leaders of the Brazilian indigenous Yanomami and Yèkwana tribes indicates that the coronavirus pandemic has increased by 250% in three months within the Yanomami reserve, one of the most endangered ethnic groups. According to the document, released by the news portal G1, one in three residents in the region may have been infected and the situation in the area is described as “totally out of control”. The Yanomani Land, which is the largest indigenous reserve in Brazil, is located between the states of Roraima and Amazonas, as well as a large part that lives on the border with Venezuela. More than 26,700 Indians, including isolated groups, inhabit the area in about 360 villages. The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the territory jumped from 335 to 1,202 between August and October, according to the document entitled ‘Xawara: traces of Covid-19 in the Yanomami Indigenous Land and omission of the state’. The monitoring of the NGO Pro-Yanomami and Yèkwana Network has counted at least 23 deaths among the Indians so far.
