In Chartres, two convicted manhole cover thieves

A man and his son were sentenced, Friday, October 9, during an appearance on prior acknowledgment of guilt (CRPC) at the Chartres judicial court, to a € 400 fine for the son and 105 days of interest work general for the father. On Wednesday October 7, during a road check by the municipal police, they were in possession of several manhole covers. The national police have been alerted. And the forensic research unit made the link with their ongoing investigation.

Since July 22, 2020, they have recorded several complaints about construction thefts around Chartres station. They had a partial photo of a suspicious vehicle and some numbers of its registration. It corresponded to the car of the two men checked.

Arrested and placed in police custody, the two suspects reportedly admitted the facts. They were reselling the cast iron manhole covers € 5 while they are worth € 130 each.

The 56-year-old father lives in Ouarville and the 25-year-old son in Fontaine-la-Guyon.
