In Australia, boomerangs were used not only for throwing – photo and statement of scientists

Scientists have uncovered the secret of using a boomerang Aboriginal Australia… It turns out that it was used not only for throwing during hunting and war, but also for quite peaceful purposes.

Research results of scientists published издание Journal of Archaeological Science: Reports.

In their new study, anthropologists from Griffith University in Australia and the University of Cape Town in South Africa have provided new evidence for the multiple uses of boomerangs.

A team of scientists analyzed microscopic footprints on the surface of 100 ancient hardwood boomerangs that were found in various regions of Australia.

Not all Australian Aboriginal boomerangs have returned, according to study lead author Eva Martellotta of Griffith University. But those that returned often served as children’s toys or used as training equipment for training future warriors.

Now anthropologists have discovered yet another feature of Australian Aboriginal boomerangs. Scientists have noticed signs of wear on some of the specimens, characteristic of stone grinding. The same abrasions were found earlier on bone fragments in European Neanderthal sites.

The team concluded that boomerangs could be used to grind stone tools.

This discovery has shed light on the multipurpose nature of boomerangs in Aboriginal culture, as well as a rich collection of interesting facts about Australia.

As reported by “Apostrophe”, Iranian archaeologists during excavations discovered fragment of the royal memorial text of the king of Assyria Sargon II.
