JAKARTA – Jackfruit has several properties that can help management blood sugar. Jackfruit has a fairly low glycemic index (GI), which is a measure of how quickly your blood sugar rises after eating. Diets that contain lots of low GI foods have been shown to help improve blood sugar control.

The study involved 40 participants with type 2 diabetes who were given 30 grams of green flour made from jackfruit for three months. Other participants were given plain flour or rice flour to make bread or idli. At the end of the study, it was found that people who mixed jackfruit flour in idli dough or wheat dough showed an increase in plasma glucose levels.

People with diabetes can eat a wide variety of foods, including fruit, vegetables and some starchy foods like pasta, keep sugar, fat and salt to a minimum, and eat breakfast, lunch and dinner every day and don’t skip meals. But diet isn’t the only way to control blood sugar levels.

Physical exercise is also effective at controlling blood sugar levels and a goal of exercising for 2.5 hours a week. This can include walking briskly, climbing stairs, and doing heavier household or gardening chores.
