Lawmakers in the US state of Mississippi voted to remove the Confederate emblem, a symbol of slavery, from the state flag. This is another case of removing the symbol of racism in the current riots in response to the killing of black American George Floyd by a Minnesota police officer, Reuters reported.
Both chambers of the legislature called for removal at the weekend. They also appointed a committee to design the new flag. Governor Tate Reeves said on Saturday that he would sign the law if passed.
