Set specific dessert days, such as weekends only

Replace sweets with healthy alternatives such as fresh, frozen, or dried fruit or low-fat, low-sugar sweets.

Reduce the amount of sugar you add to your recipes when making cakes and desserts and replace the sugar with unsweetened sauce

Compare sweets at the supermarket and read the food label to avoid choosing sugary sweets

The Emirati Health Services Foundation, through its official account on the ‘Instagram’ website, said that added sugars can cause health problems when consumed in large quantities.

The most prominent of these problems are: overweight (obesity), type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

The Emirates Foundation for Health Services advises the need to reduce sugar consumption.


It is important to avoid consuming calorie drinks and drink water instead.

Care should be taken to eat healthy foods such as fruits, fresh vegetables, brown rice, beans, fish and lentils.

You can also eat nuts, low-fat cheese, low-sodium crispy chips and vegetables with sauces or yogurt with fresh fruit.
