Impressions from playing the second Resident Evil Village demo

Remember: ours gallery screenshots from the January “Maiden” demo.

Resident Evil Village is approaching and after the January demo “Maiden”, which worked more like a visual demonstration, we were finally able to try a full-fledged gameplay demo. This time we looked at the nameless village, where we could spend up to 30 minutes.

I managed to finish the demo in 26 minutes and I must say that I had fun from start to finish. It can be seen that Capcom chose this part carefully because it was a very intense experience. We could try gameplay for the first time, but we also witnessed several cutscenes that beautifully evoked the atmosphere and the transition to them, as in RE7, is practically unknown.

First, I would like to touch on a graphic page that is at a very good level. I played the demo on a PlayStation 5 with ray tracing turned on and you can see quite a lot of progress in the level of detail compared to the seventh part. The only downside I see in the occasional bouncing of textures (this was unfortunately a big problem in RE7) and sometimes also the slips of the images, but we had to reckon with that. Capcom promised 60 fps only when ray tracing was off. Nevertheless, I think that the game would suit the mode with Full HD at 60 fps and ray tracing turned on.

I was very impressed by the already mentioned cutscenes and the associated dubbing. Unlike the seventh part, Ethan is finally a character who has real emotions and has no problem getting into his role. Unlike RE7, it was clear that he was confused and overwhelmed by what was happening around him. One of the fan favorites could eventually turn out of the originally not very popular character. Even though it was only a fraction of the whole story, I was very impressed by this section and I am very curious how it will develop further.

In terms of gameplay, it is really a mix of RE4 and RE7, as we have seen from previous shots. The inventory is practically identical to the fourth part, but there is also a crafting system from seven. The feeling from the shooting was great, everything was enhanced by the use of adaptive triggers on the DualSense controller. However, they wouldn’t have to switch so often when I’m not using a weapon, it was a little annoying over time.

There are not many enemies in the demo and they are limited to werewolves, who also have various weapons at their disposal. A one-on-one duel is not a problem, but when I inadvertently got into a duel with a group of about 5 enemies, I had really little. In addition, they could not be seen in a field of grain, so you could only recognize their position by the sounds. However, in addition to weapons, you can also use blocking and subsequent kicking, or your surroundings. For example, I could barricade myself in the house or shoot bags of flour.

Overall, I really liked the demo and I’m really curious what Capcom has prepared for us in the next one, which awaits us next week on Sunday. If you have a console from Sony and would like to try the current demo version, do not delay. It’s only available until 3:00 tomorrow morning.
