Important information for everyone who uses Viber

Rakuten Viber, the leading chat and messaging platform, has announced its latest feature to enhance consumer security – two-step verification. This extra level of security allows users to authenticate their accounts using PIN and email. The functionality will be introduced in stages in Bulgaria and more countries in Europe in May, before being launched globally.

The company’s mission to provide its users with a secure platform for communication and content is to constantly strive to create features like this. Viber messaging is encrypted from end to end, eliminating access to third-party users’ data. The disappearing messages option, in turn, allows even more control over who can see the messages. The latest two-step verification feature is another example of Viber’s unwavering position to provide the highest level of privacy in communication and reassure users that they are communicating in a secure platform.

Users who want to use 2-digit verification must create a 6-digit pin code and verify their email. In order to be able to log in to their accounts in the mobile or desktop version of Viber, they will need to enter their individual PIN code and verify their accounts. In case of forgotten PIN code, the registered email will be used to restore access.

In addition, the presence of a pin code will eliminate the possibility of deactivating a Viber account from a computer. Anyone who tries to deactivate an account via desktop will need a pre-set pin code.

Two-step verification protects users from hackers who could steal their accounts in order to send spam or gain access to their personal information. A larger number of verified accounts will not only reduce spam messages on the platform, but will also create a more efficient and stable application for communicating with loved ones around the world. In addition, Viber is working to integrate biometric authentication in the future.

“Protecting Viber users is our number one priority. We are committed to providing a secure, encrypted communication application, and this new feature reinforces this position,” said Amir Ish-Shalom, Rakuten Viber’s Chief Information Officer.

“Two-step verification aims to provide even more security for both users in their communication and business in their day-to-day operations, because we provide the latest technology to keep the application secure,” he added.
