According to Daryono, the earthquake caused landslides in mountainous areas with hills and steep cliffs. Reportedly, landslides and rock debris resulted in casualties.
“The follow-up effects of strong earthquakes in the form of landslides and rock debris are common, so this kind of topographical effect should be watched out for during and after the earthquake. The after-effects triggered by this earthquake were reported to have caused casualties due to being buried by landslides in Trunyan Village, Kintamani,” he said.
The earthquake that occurred on Saturday (16/10) at 04.10 WITA with the epicenter on land. The earthquake was called a shallow earthquake, active fault activity in the Rendang area Karangasem.
“The impact of the earthquake in the form of shocks based on community reports was felt in the Karangasem, Denpasar, and North Lombok areas on the MMI IV intensity scale. Meanwhile in Negara, Tabanan, West Lombok, Central Lombok, and East Lombok on the III MMI intensity scale,” he said.
After the earthquake, there were several aftershocks. It was recorded that there were three aftershocks with a strength below M 4.8.
“As of 7.30 WIB this morning, the results of BMKG monitoring showed that there were 3 aftershock activities of magnitude 3.8 (felt in Karangasem III MMI), magnitude 2.7 and magnitude 1.7 which occurred at 3.52 WIB,” he said. .
