IMMUNIZATION OF MINORS | PROTOCOL AND DOUBTS

The Comunitat Valenciana will resume next Monday, January 10, coinciding with the face-to-face return to the classrooms, the pediatric vaccination. The operation, coordinated by the departments of Universal Health and Public Health, and Education, Culture and Sports, will focus on this occasion on the students of 5 to 8 years, regardless of the ownership of their school. They will also be immunized children ages 9-11 who were unable to get vaccinated before Christmas for being confined, for not having the authorization of the parents or guardians, or for any other reason.

With this second stage of the pediatric vaccination campaign, the immunization of all boys and girls aged 11 to 5 years residing in the Valencian Community will be covered.

In the first phase, which developed normally before the Christmas holidays, 107,360 male and female students received the first dose Pfizer Pediatric Vaccine.

Protocol and authorization

The first step is for the family to fill out, sign and deliver to the school the authorization that the center will have sent them. It is expected that this process can be completed between Monday (the day the authorizations will be delivered) and Wednesday, to begin the Thursday January 13 with the inoculation.

Where the vaccination of minors takes place

The process takes place in the schools themselves, during school hours and by educational level to preserve the usual groups of coexistence.

Can minors be accompanied?

As in the first phase of the pediatric campaign, with the youngest children, at the time of inoculation, a family member will also be allowed to access the center to accompany them emotionally.

Will children stay in class after getting vaccinated?

Yes. Once vaccinated, students will go to the post-vaccination waiting area to monitor possible adverse events for a minimum of 15 minutes under the supervision of the health team. If after vaccination any effect appears, the ordinary protocol will be followed, immediately notifying the family members.

After vaccination, if there is a positive schoolchild in a class, will the whole class be confined?

According to the current protocol “the students, teaching and support staff who have received the complete vaccination schedule will be excluded from quarantining by close contact,” as established by the Ministry of Health.
