Jane explained that vaccines are biological products that are susceptible to temperature changes. Generally, vaccines need to be stored at a temperature of 2 to 8 degrees Celsius and this temperature must be maintained from the factory to the health center.
The process of maintaining the temperature of the vaccine at ideal conditions from start to finish is called the cold chain. According to him, Indonesia has years of experience in implementing vaccination programs.
The distribution process of vaccines in Indonesia can be carried out from Aceh to Papua and has used a good cold chain system to all corners of the country. Special refrigerated storage cabinets in the provinces can also store vaccines for a period of 3 to 6 months with temperatures maintained at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius.
For the vaccine delivery process, said Jane, it is carried out gradually to the district or city level to hospitals and health centers. When leaving the cold room, the vaccine must be quickly put into a temporary box specially designed to keep the temperature on the way.
Given that vaccinations must be carried out regularly in order to maintain quality, vaccines must be given on a schedule.
