Immigration: shut up and welcome! – Conversationalist

The European regulation on asylum and migration currently under discussion will soon have the force of law in France. It will encourage illegal immigration, make life easier for terrorists and expand the powers of technocrats. It is our future that we are mortgaging.

The new EU migration policy, announced by the European Commission on September 23, is currently being drafted. It comes in several legislative texts which will significantly worsen the legal straitjacket embracing the Member States (MS). The cornerstone of the future system is the proposal for a regulation on the management of asylum and migration, which the European Parliament and the Council are currently examining. The Commission wants to obtain a political agreement on this founding text before the end of 2020, which will see the end of the German presidency.

The main provisions of this regulation

It establishes the principle of compulsory examination by MS of any request for protection presented on their territory by a third-country national or by a stateless person. He thus opens a breach in which illegal immigrants will not fail to rush en masse, claiming to be persecuted. It confirms and extends the principle established in 2016 of relocating asylum seekers to other countries, with priority given to unaccompanied minors, when the country of initial arrival no longer manages to absorb excessive flows of applicants. It creates a solidarity mechanism in favor of MS subject to migratory pressure or in which landings are made following search and rescue operations.

Combined with a disproportionate bureaucratic organization, this system establishes solidarity contributions payable by the various MS, making it possible to relieve those who temporarily face a situation that has become unmanageable. For each MS, these contributions may take several forms (relocation of applicants, support for returns of illegally staying third-country nationals, logistical and operational assistance, etc.). It will be evaluated according to two criteria (population and GDP) and will be adjustable as needed. The distribution key adopted will make France the second largest contributor to the solidarity mechanism, after Germany.

The progress of the file

The proposed regulation is being scrutinized by the European institutions. Its adoption by the Council requires a favorable vote by qualified majority (55% of MS, representing at least 65% of the EU population). Opponents are therefore unlikely to reach the blocking minority (four MS representing at least 35% of the EU population).
